By Extension is a pop-up show I installed at the Glasco Turnpike house at the Center for Photography at Woodstock in Woodstock, NY. The show, which was up for one day only---October 2, 2013---was the first installation at the Center created by an artist-in-residence that was open for the public.
This site-specific installation was an extension of my Self-Portraits series that I started in 2010. It includes self-portraits and landscape images that I took during my three-week stay as an artist in residence at Woodstock with a 4x5 camera; objects that I collected from various sites throughout Hudson Valley, contact prints, and journal entries that documented my process for creating this particular body of work.
By including work that does not always contain a corporeal element, I hope to expand the meaning of what a self-portrait looks and feels like and portray how text, ephemera and landscape photography can create a sense of self and identity.
